Carpiano Between History and Landscape

Carpiano combines impressive architectural heritage with parks, agricultural areas and opportunities for walks. Those interested in culture can discover a castle, a church and a piazza, each with its own character. Castle, Church and Piazza

The Castello di Carpiano was rebuilt in 1549 by the Carthusian fathers; its original form dated back to the 14th century. The rectangular, fortified grangia castle has four corner towers, three of which are visible today.

The Castello di Carpiano includes an oratory dedicated to Saint Bruno, which was consecrated in 1645. The marble decorations and frescoes in the castle bear the inscription “GRA CAR”, referring to the Certosa di Pavia. This means that the building brings together medieval origins, its 16th-century reconstruction, and later religious and artistic traces.

The Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo dates back to the 14th century. Its square portico has twisted columns made of Candoglia marble, originating from the Certosa di Pavia. On Piazza Colonna, an ancient column made of Serizzo gives the square its name.

Agricultural Surroundings and Green Spaces

Carpiano lies entirely within the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. The management of the surrounding land promoted agricultural activities through a significant irrigation system. In the center of Carpiano is the Frutteto del Castello, which borders the Castello di Carpiano. Its entrance and parking area are wheelchair accessible.

Walks, Parks and Family Facilities

The Sentiero delle Querce runs for approximately 6 km along the country roads in the Carpiano area. Its approximate length provides a concrete reference for planning the duration of a walk. The Parco degli Aironi is Carpiano’s main public park and has a children’s playground. It also features a permanent stage for events and a bookcrossing service. The Parco di Francolino is a public park in Francolino and also has a children’s playground; its entrance and parking area are wheelchair accessible.

The Biblioteca Rita Levi Montalcini offers book lending for all age groups, as well as a place for studying and consultation. At the Centro Sportivo Comunale, concrete tennis courts and tennis courts with synthetic surfaces, as well as five-a-side football pitches with synthetic surfaces, can be reserved during the week. The courts and pitches are open-air and not covered.
