Cornaredo offers a varied blend of sport, sacred art, rural surroundings and events. The Centro Sportivo Sandro Pertini, the Chiesetta di San Rocco, the Antiquarium and the Area Museale Favaglie each offer a different focus. The townscape is complemented by several parks, palaces and museums in the surrounding area, as well as festivals with musical and culinary highlights.

Sport and music in Cornaredo

The Centro Sportivo Sandro Pertini covers more than 66,000 m² of sports facilities and offers opportunities for football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, swimming, touch tennis and athletics. This gives Cornaredo a broad range of sports-related activities without requiring you to commit to a single sport. A cultural addition is provided by the recurring event series “Maggio Musicale in Chiesa Vecchia”. In May, it brings music to the Chiesa Vecchia di San Pietro all’Olmo.

Churches and art from different centuries

The Chiesetta di San Rocco is believed to have been built around 1485 and contains a fresco cycle from the late 15th century. The Chiesa Vecchia di San Pietro all’Olmo also houses the Antiquarium. The former sacristy accommodates this collection, which was inaugurated on 14 October 2022.

The Antiquarium displays reconstructed painted plaster fragments from the Ottonian phase of the church of San Pietro all’Olmo. The associated mural painting cycle was created in the first decades of the 11th century. This creates a chronological arc for your tour of Cornaredo, from medieval wall paintings to the frescoes of the Chiesetta di San Rocco and the musical events at the Chiesa Vecchia.

Meadows, agriculture and culinary festivals

The Area Museale Favaglie includes a large meadow bordered by lush, wooded vegetation. Equipment used for haymaking and the agricultural museum are also on display. The rural character becomes evident during the traditional Fiera Agrozootecnica, with livestock exhibitors from various places. The traditional Fiera in festa “Dall´alba al tramonto” includes food stalls.

Palaces, museums and parks in the surrounding area

The Palazzo Podestarile is located in the immediate vicinity of Cornaredo. The surrounding area also includes the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo, as well as Villa Litta and Villa Visconti Borromeo Arese Litta. For stays focused on green spaces, the nearby area offers the Parco Villa Visconti - Banfi, Parco Quattro Elle, Parco Pirandello and Parco Villa Burba Cornaggia Medici. These local landmarks provide various points of connection for culture, architecture and landscape, without all the impressions belonging to the same historical or thematic area.

Dates for planning your trip

The San Pietro patron saint festival takes place on the first Sunday in October and continues throughout the entire month of October. Together with the music series in May, this creates a calendar with different cultural highlights.
