Festival culture and rural tradition
Ceriano Laghetto can be discovered through its festival culture, rural traditions and the landscapes of the Groane. Ceriano Laghetto’s traditional Festa del Paese is associated with the consecration of the parish church of San Vittore Martire. The Festa del Paese also includes a traditional ceremonial procession through the streets of Ceriano Laghetto. The church, festival and procession thus form a clear cultural point of reference within the town.
A further connection between local history, food and wine is showcased by the 8th Festa dei Cortili. More than 800 people took part in an enogastronomic tour through the historic centre of Ceriano Laghetto. The walking meal led through some of the town’s most characteristic courtyards. Each courtyard served a course paired with a DOC wine and offered insights into places, tools and objects from rural tradition; in some cases, the meal was accompanied by music. Those interested in regional everyday culture will find here a festival format in which courtyards, food, wine and memories of agriculture come together.
Groane, protected areas and fruit growing
The area’s natural features also play an important role in Ceriano Laghetto. The Riserva Naturale dei Boschi di Sant’Andrea also encompasses Ceriano Laghetto. In addition, the Boschi delle Groane area, identified by the code IT2050002, extends over Ceriano Laghetto among other places. Both names refer to landscapes that place the town within the broader context of the Groane.
This connection with the landscape is particularly concrete at the Frutteto del Parco. The orchard covers approximately 80 hectares in Ceriano Laghetto within the Parco delle Groane and is the largest active orchard with several varieties in the province. The approximate area figure and its classification as an active orchard make fruit growing an independent feature of the townscape, without requiring any additional assumptions about the land.
At the Frutteto del Parco’s Farm Fest, dinner is served between the rows of trees. Alongside the agricultural area, this establishes a specific culinary event format associated with the orchard. In 2024, Frutteto del Parco became an agriturismo and, among other things, offered educational farming activities recognised by the region. This temporal reference is decisive for classifying the agriturismo and should not be understood as a general statement about an operation that has remained unchanged permanently.
Palaces and a museum in the surrounding area
The surrounding area of Ceriano Laghetto also contains two palaces and a museum. Palazzo Visconti is a palace near Ceriano Laghetto. Villa Pusterla is likewise a palace near Ceriano Laghetto. The Museo Giuseppe Gianetti is a museum near Ceriano Laghetto. For travel planning with an interest in architecture and museum culture, these destinations complement the town’s festivals and rural themes.
Location and choosing accommodation
The Novara–Seregno railway line runs south of the built-up area of Ceriano Laghetto. This spatial reference point is useful when considering the town’s location and including a hotel or other accommodation in Ceriano Laghetto in your travel plans. It helps distinguish conceptually between the built-up area and the railway line running south of it.
Depending on your personal interests, you can give Ceriano Laghetto different levels of emphasis: the Festa del Paese and the procession appeal to those interested in religiously influenced festival culture, while the Festa dei Cortili focuses on regional cuisine and rural traditions. The Riserva Naturale dei Boschi di Sant’Andrea, the Boschi delle Groane and the Frutteto del Parco place the emphasis on the landscape. Palazzo Visconti, Villa Pusterla and the Museo Giuseppe Gianetti broaden the cultural surroundings, while the Novara–Seregno railway line provides a specific spatial reference south of the built-up area.
