Grosotto Between Architecture and Landscape

Grosotto combines examples of medieval architecture with residential buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries. These are complemented by the route along Via Patrioti, hikes into Val Grosina and the Archaeological Park between Grosio and Grosotto. In this way, culture, landscape and local history come together in different ways.

Sacred Art with a Long History

The Santuario della Beata Vergine delle Grazie was begun as a small church in 1487, after Grosotto escaped the destruction of its town by the Grisons. The Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie di Grosotto houses a 16th-century wooden sculpture attributed to Giov. Angelo del Maio from Pavia. The organ of the Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie di Grosotto was made in 1713–1714 by Giov. Battista del Piaz from Cles in Val di Non (Trentino).

The parish church of Sant'Eusebio also makes a striking architectural statement: Its bell tower has two levels of triple windows, an octagonal drum and a dome. The tower was built in 1900 according to a design by the engineer Pinchetti, replacing an earlier tower erected in 1756.

Stroll Along Via Patrioti

On a stroll along Via Patrioti, you will see old stately houses and chapels. A fountain and washhouse dating from 1695 also stands along this street.

Hiking and Mountain Biking

From Grosotto, you can go hiking in Val Grosina. The Sentieri di Pace trails of the Cornin 15-18 project pass through forests and along old military roads, leading to panoramic viewpoints overlooking Valtellina. The trails are suitable for easy walks, trekking and mountain biking.

Rupe Magna and the Archaeological Park

The Archaeological Park of the rock engravings between Grosio and Grosotto includes the Rupe Magna, a large rock with more than 5,000 rock engravings depicting human figures, animals and geometric designs. Some date from the Late Neolithic.

The rock engravings of the Rupe Magna are accessible only as part of the guided tour “Alla scoperta della Rupe Magna.” The area of the medieval castles in the Archaeological Park, on the other hand, is freely accessible at any time and can be visited independently. When planning your visit, it is therefore important to distinguish between the guided tour and free access.

Leisure Activities Along the Adda

Parco Prati di Punta is a green recreational area on the Adda River near the center of Grosotto and serves as a stop along the Sentiero Valtellina. It has two artificial lakes dedicated to sport fishing: One is intended for experienced anglers, while the other is designed for beginners and children.

Punta Park for Sports and Families

Parco Prati di Punta includes the Punta Park play area with slides, swings, wooden structures, climbing walls and a zip line, as well as a picnic area with tables, benches and barbecue facilities.
