In the area around Casale Litta, the Palude Brabbia Nature Reserve offers numerous paths for birdwatching. Observation facilities, educational panels and a visitor centre complement this nature experience. The educational panels and visitor centre also make the features of the protected area accessible to visitors who are interested in birdlife without having extensive prior knowledge.

For an active exploration, the circular trail from Casale Litta is available. It begins at Fattoria Pasquè in Bernate, is suitable for all fitness levels and can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. The circular trail is 7.2 kilometres long and takes approximately two and a half hours. Another trail sequence is formed by the Sentiero della Cascina Bruciata: it includes a short section towards the erratic boulder “Sasso dei Carbonai” and continues along this section to the Maria Bambina Chapel.

Historical Traces around Casale Litta

The village developed around the few remains of an old castle. It was once fortified to defend against Visconti and foreign troops, as well as incursions by Hungarian invaders. On the summit of Tordera Hill, at an altitude of 394 metres, there are also the remains of two medieval towers known as “i Torrioni”. The approach to the Torrioni offers views of Monte Rosa, Lake Varese to the east and Lake Comabbio to the west.

The history of Bernate also adds to the picture of the area. The Church of the Conversion of Saint Paul dates from the 14th century and preserves fragments of a 16th-century fresco. An organ from the first half of the 19th century was made by the Varese organ builder Maroni Biroldi. Along the paths, you therefore encounter different eras without limiting your stay to a single historic building.

Farmsteads and Regional Everyday History

Casale Litta preserves a system of interconnected agricultural farmsteads dating back to 1722, with residential and farm buildings. Fattoria Pasquè in Bernate offers a specific insight into agricultural traditions. The livestock farm, which is open to the public, combines livestock farming, agritourism and educational activities. The farm is therefore one of the places where the area's rural character can be experienced directly during a visit.
