Old Town and Culture in Cingoli

The almost completely preserved city walls enclose Cingoli’s large old town and numerous historic buildings. They thus form the visible framework for a townscape in which architecture, history and collections are closely interconnected.

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cingoli is located in the Palazzo Comunale. Its location in the town hall makes the museum a natural cultural point of reference within the city. This focus is complemented by the Chiesa di Sant’Esuperanzio, a Romanesque-Gothic church. Its portal was created by Master Giacomo and completed in 1295. Its crypt houses the relics of Saint Esuperanzio, which were discovered on January 24, 1495.

The Palazzo Castiglioni also focuses on a specific individual and his sphere of life. The house museum preserves furnishings and personal belongings of Francesco Saverio Castiglioni. Following its closure due to the damage to the building caused by the 2016 earthquake, the Pinacoteca comunale di Cingoli reopened with a new presentation of its collections, established in 2024.

Several sites of cultural and historical interest are located in the wider regional surroundings of Cingoli: the Pianetti Palace and the Colocci Palace are two palaces. The Museo “a. Colocci”, a museum, is also located in this wider regional area. The ruins of Castreccioni Castle are also located in the immediate surroundings of Cingoli.

Mountains, Views and Paths

The landscape around Cingoli is shaped by several elevations. The mountain Monte Acuto and the mountain Colle Colmone are located in the surrounding area. The peaks in this area include Monte Martino and Monte Faldobono. The Belvedere Balcone delle Marche is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Cingoli and provides a special highlight for anyone who would like to experience the town through its landscape as well.

For an easier outing, an easy circular trail leads through the Macchia delle Tassinete to Pantanaccio. The path is predominantly flat and suitable for everyone.

A moderately difficult route leads via Pantanaccio to the panoramic Cima delle Piane at an elevation of 780 m. From there, the impressive view extends over Cingoli, Monte Conero and the Adriatic coast. Another route runs along the elevations of the Dorsale di Cingoli, a small mountain range above the town, and leads through forest and dense scrubland.
