Historic Town Centre and Sea Views

In the historic centre of Civitanova Alta, Piazza della Libertà preserves an almost completely intact medieval town layout with rising lanes and views over red rooftops. Porta Marina is located on the eastern side of Civitanova Alta’s city walls. The gate was built of brick in the mid-15th century and features a double pointed arch and a tower structure. Porta Marina is also known as Porta Sant’Angelo and offers views of the Adriatic.

Theatre, Pinacoteca and Crafts

The Teatro Storico Annibal Caro was built between 1869 and 1872 and has a horseshoe-shaped auditorium. The Pinacoteca Civica „Marco Moretti“ is housed in the former residence of Annibal Caro’s family in Civitanova Alta. It displays paintings, drawings and prints by major 20th-century artists, including Morandi, De Pisis, Gentilini, Tamburi, Cantatore, Maccari, Crali, Tulli, Castellani and Bartolini, as well as numerous Italian printmakers from the Urbino school.

The Ex Chiesa di Sant’Agostino features a Rococo interior with stucco work attributed to Agostino Varlè and an organ by Callido. The former church of Sant’Agostino has been converted into an auditorium for cultural events, performances, exhibitions and performances. In Via dei Sediari, the historic chairmaking craft is commemorated by the „impagliarelle“, the hand-woven seats of wooden chairs. The themed lane is decorated with historic photographs, displayed chairs and information panels.

Church Art and Sacred Spaces

The Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento was founded before the 16th century. Its nave includes six side chapels with paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Beside the church, the Antiquarium preserves sacred vestments, liturgical objects, paintings and religious artefacts from the 16th to the 19th century.

Hill Views Beyond Civitanova Alta

Beyond Civitanova Alta, the Chiesetta di San Savino stands on a gentle hill. It offers a rural panorama as well as a place for quiet reflection. Here, the rural view differs from the red rooftops in the town centre and the view of the Adriatic.

Festival Tradition and Local Cuisine

A traditional festival is also part of Civitanova Marche: the festival in honour of San Savino and San Vincenzo has been celebrated there for more than 70 years on 25 April. The celebration includes a procession, a mass, music, entertainment and food stalls.

The local cuisine of Civitanova Marche includes „furbi con l’abbiti“, meaning octopus with chard, „sgombri al vino rosso“ and „brodetto alla civitanovese“.
