Petriolo Between Walls and Panoramic Views

The Castello di Petriolo was founded by the Farfensi monks around the year 1000. The Torrione, also known as Porta Rondella, was built at the beginning of the 16th century and marks the southern entrance to the Castello di Petriolo. From Piazza San Martino, you can look out over gently rolling cultivated hills and hilltop settlements. In the distance lie the Monti Sibillini, Gran Sasso, Monti della Laga and Monte Vettore.

Churches and Sacred Art

The Santuario della Madonna della Misericordia preserves a polychrome wooden statue of the Madonna and Child by Giovanni Antonio da L’Aquila from 1525. The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Soccorso was founded around the 12th century and preserves a fresco of the Madonna and Child by Lorenzo d’Alessandro from 1490. At the Museo dei Legni Processionali “Mons. M. Manfroni”, you can see procession woodcarvings, sacred furnishings, votive offerings and 16th-century paintings by Durante Nobili and Andrea de Magistris.

Museums with Different Perspectives

The Museo Diego De Minicis is housed in the restored former Chiesa del Suffragio, dating from the 18th century. It contains models submitted for the 1935 competition for a monument to Filippo Corridoni, high-relief Stations of the Cross, a bust of Luciani and a self-portrait from 1941. The Museo delle Macchine Parlanti presents the history of communication in chronological order.

E-Bike Routes and Saltarello

The e-bike rental service in Petriolo is part of the BikeSquare network and offers electric bicycles for exploring the surrounding hills and the area's panoramic routes. One of the recommended routes is “Petriolo gioiello di Marca”. The experience “A lezione di saltarello” focuses on learning the traditional saltarello dance from the Marche. Vino Cotto and Agricultural Tradition

In the ancient granary of the Catalani counts on Via de’ Nobili, there is a cellar for producing vino cotto. This place bears witness to local agricultural traditions and adds a culinary dimension to Petriolo’s cultural themes.

For your summer planning, the Museo dei Legni Processionali “Mons. Manfroni” is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visits are possible by request on other days. This allows you to fit your museum visit specifically into your time for art, history and regional customs.
