San Giorgio di Pesaro: Churches, City Walls and Hilly Landscape

The present-day Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giorgio di Pesaro was rebuilt between 1841 and 1843 to a design by the architect Giuseppe Ferroni, who came from Senigallia. There is also an 18th-century oval painting of the Annunciation, which comes from the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo and is attributed to Francesco Mancini.

The present form of the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo was created through a reconstruction carried out from 1787 to 1839 to a design by the architect Domenico Piotti. The single-nave interior has a barrel vault, simple Neoclassical architectural decorations, four side altars and a high altar. The church houses paintings from the late 16th and 17th centuries, including an altarpiece depicting the Descent of the Holy Spirit from the second half of the 16th century.

Remains of the Walls and Living Tradition

The ancient city walls of San Giorgio di Pesaro completely enclosed the town until the middle of the 15th century. Today, only individual sections remain visible. Another contemporary historical facet emerged in May 2024: San Giorgio di Pesaro hosted the traditional San Pasquale festival in honour of the patron saint of Terre Roveresche. In 2024, the festival was accompanied by a solemn procession carrying the wooden statue of the saint along the country roads.
