The furnishings of the Chiesa di San Michele include a 19th-century Romantic organ, a work by the Martinelli brothers. The paintings also reach back to earlier centuries. The church contains two 17th-century works: “San Michele che uccide il demonio” and “Sant'Emidio”, who holds the Castello di Sorbolongo in his hands. The motif of the Castello thus creates a direct link between the sacred interior and the historic townscape.

Ring of Walls, Castle and View

The historic center of Sorbolongo is enclosed by an old ring of walls. The walls of the Castello di Sorbolongo date from the early years of the 13th century and are still largely well preserved. The Castello itself stands on the wooded summit of a hill at 357 meters above sea level. Elevation, woodland and fortifications therefore combine to shape the character of the town.

The short, narrow footpaths in the historic center are important for finding your way around. Some of them pass through covered passageways beneath buildings, giving the townscape a distinctive spatial quality. The path along Sorbolongo's walls now serves exclusively as a viewing balcony.
