Frassineto Po between Palazzo Mossi and the Po landscape

Frassineto Po brings together Palazzo Mossi, several churches, the Giardino del Pozzo Antico and connections to the Po landscape. Those exploring the town encounter both architectural history and a garden in the old fortification ditches, as well as the landscape around the Po. In the townscape of Frassineto Po, the river landscape along the Po and the former bastion ditch stand side by side as two clearly distinct landscape areas.

Palazzo Mossi

Palazzo Mossi is a large Empire-style building. In 1812, Monsignor Vincenzo Maria Mossi commissioned the architect Agostino Vitoli, who came from Spoleto, to carry out the construction project.

A restored section of Palazzo Mossi was opened to the public in 1997. The historic Palazzo Mossi houses the Centro di Interpretazione del Paesaggio del Po. The Villaggio del Libro is also located in the same building. Palazzo Mossi thus brings together architectural history, landscape interpretation and the Villaggio del Libro in one place. When planning an individual trip, Palazzo Mossi can therefore be considered together with its two institutions as a separate point of interest.

The Centro and the Po landscape

The Centro presents the history and transformation of the landscape through large-scale installations, videos, dioramas, reconstructed habitats and explanatory panels. It regularly offers meetings and activities.

The Centro di Interpretazione del Paesaggio del Po is located along the route of the Vento long-distance cycle path between Venice and Turin. For cycling travellers, this location provides concrete planning information.

Churches in the townscape

The Chiesa di Sant'Ambrogio was built between 1444 and 1454 and consecrated on 20 May 1477. In 1911, it was added to the list of Italy's national monumental buildings.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli was built in 1620 on the site of the former cemetery, which had developed around the town's first parish church. The Cappella di San Rocco is a 14th-century chapel located in Frassineto Po.

Garden and time outdoors

The Giardino del Pozzo Antico is a tree-lined garden laid out in the ditch of the old bastions. Its location in the former fortification ditch makes the historic structure tangible in today's townscape.

For a break outdoors, the Area Attrezzata “Frassineto Po” is available. It includes a car park, a picnic area with tables and benches, and an information board. Those arriving by car can associate the car park, tables and benches with the same facility.

Festivities along the Po

During the festivities for the Sagra del Peperone, local associations organise walks as well as hiking and cycling routes along the Po. This gives the festival a concrete connection to the Po landscape and to different means of transport.

For further trip planning, you can also compare Borghetto Di Borbera, San Cristoforo, Gavi, Castellazzo Bormida, Pontecurone, Bistagno, Momperone and Acqui Terme.
