Grinzane Cavour is completely surrounded by the vineyards of the Bassa Langa, planted with Nebbiolo vines.

At the foot of the hill near Grinzane Cavour Castle lies an experimental vineyard with one of the most comprehensive collections of grape varieties in Europe. Its location at the foot of the castle hill links the collection of grape varieties with the historic building.

The open-air museum In Vigna takes you along the rows of vines through the history and life cycle of the vineyard in the “Vigna del Conte” at the foot of Grinzane Cavour Castle. The rows of vines provide the concrete setting for exploring the vineyard.

At the Cavour Vineyard, you can walk freely along the castle’s enclosing walls while taking in views of the Langhe hills. During the walk, the historic building remains as present as the landscape.

Castle and Medieval Roots

Grinzane Cavour Castle stands on a hill not far from Alba and offers views of the Langhe hills, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. By car, the castle can be reached via the SP3 or SP12 roads; parking is available nearby. The hilltop location connects the historic building with the surrounding area shaped by vineyards.

The reception room of Grinzane Cavour Castle features a wooden coffered ceiling with 156 masks, the coats of arms of the Belli and Donati families, and various allegories. The coffered ceiling provides a richly detailed focal point inside the castle.

Church and Museum

The parish church of Maria Vergine del Carmine was rebuilt in the first half of the 17th century and extended in 1890.

It features decorations by Fedele Finati and figurative works by Paolo Gaidano dating from 1895. The 1890 extension and the works from 1895 belong to the later layers of the church’s history.

The Langhe Museum displays original tools and equipment used for centuries in the fields and in local workshops.

The Langhe Museum also displays memorabilia relating to Cavour: his mayoral sash, several original documents and his bedroom with an Empire-style bed. The museum thus presents work tools from the fields and workshops alongside personal memorabilia relating to Cavour.

At the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese “Cavour”, you can taste and buy local wines such as Barolo, Nebbiolo and Cavour sparkling wine.
