Manzotti: Moscato, Vineyards and Monferrato Views

Manzotti combines winegrowing, walks and regional culture in the hilly landscape of Monferrato. Among vineyards, farms and paths shaped by literature, different impressions emerge: you can explore Moscato wines, follow short paths through the vines or let your gaze wander over the hills from a hilltop viewpoint.

Winegrowing on Via Manzotti

Azienda Agricola Filippa Diego is located at Via Manzotti 39, 12053 Castiglione Tinella (CN). The farm offers guided cellar tours with tastings of regional wines. This means that, alongside the landscape, the practical side of winegrowing is also at the centre of the experience.

The Manzotti vineyard faces south-southeast and has a slope of 40 %. The Moscato wines produced by Azienda Agricola Simone Cerruti come from this vineyard. The wider local context is also closely linked to this grape variety: Castiglione Tinella lies in the classic production area of Moscato d’Asti. The Muscat grapes known there as “Muscatel” are made into Moscato d’Asti and Asti Spumante or Asti, respectively; both are DOCG wines.

Walk to the Moscato Big Bench

The “Moscato Experience” begins with a short walk through the Manzotti vineyard, a so-called Sorì. The Moscato Big Bench is located near the summit of Via Manzotti, on one of the highest hills in Castiglione Tinella, and is part of the Big Bench Community Project. Here, the vineyard, viewpoint and Moscato theme are brought together in a single experience.

The Sentiero Fermo Cerutti crosses a hilltop where the villages of Brosia and Manzotti are located. From this hilltop, views open out over the hills of Monferrato. At the “Verrà scalza” event, a 2.3 km walk to the Moscato Big Bench in Manzotti was also offered; a toast was planned there.

Agriculture and local culture

The tourist offering of Azienda Agricola Simone Cerruti includes visits to the vegetable garden and vineyards. The garden and vineyards represent two different areas of agriculture at Simone Cerruti. The offering also includes the Crutin, an old cellar now used as an agricultural museum. At the “Festa della Vendemmia”, the programme included a description of the stages of the Moscato grape harvest. Visitors could then watch the harvesting of the final rows of vines and the pressing of the grapes for the “rapulè”.

“Verrà scalza” connected the “Versi in Vigna” literary park with red and yellow paths on which the poems are visible, and led to Moscato Big Bench No. 191 in Manzotti.
