Piozzo between the Castle, Pumpkin and Tanaro Valley
Piozzo between the Plain, the Langhe and the Tanaro
Piozzo is a village between the plain and the Langhe, touched by the Tanaro River. At the Santuario di Nostra Signora dell'Alba Rosa, an extensive viewpoint offers views of the Tanaro Valley and the nearby hills of the Langhe. If you would like to consider landscape and local culture together when choosing your destination, you can start your personal planning here with a clear regional focus.
Historical Tour and Castle
The Municipality of Piozzo provides a historical and artistic tour with 16 stops for discovering the village's monuments. Piozzo Castle was rebuilt in the 15th century on the site of an earlier fortress. Various lords of Piozzo used it as a residence. The tour thus offers direct access to the village's monuments, while the castle connects Piozzo's history with a tangible building.
Santuario della Madonna della Mirra
The Santuario della Madonna della Mirra was built on the remains of an old 15th-century church. Its garden is a rare example of a space for meditation and work designed in the 18th century in harmony with the architecture of the religious complex. The apse frescoes of the Santuario preserve an image of a “Madonna in mandorla”. For visitors interested in culture, this site combines architectural history with religious art and a deliberately designed setting.
Pumpkin between Tradition and Exhibition
The Fiera della Zucca di Piozzo originated in 1994 from a local tradition in which dried pumpkins were used as wine containers. It takes place every year on the first weekend of October and includes a pumpkin exhibition on antique carts as well as a technical and scientific exhibition. The pumpkin variety in question returned to the village's fields through the recovery and selection work of the Pro Loco di Piozzo and was registered with the Italian Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico in 2015.
Baladin and the History of Brewing
The Baladin farm brewery was founded in Piozzo in 1996, originally as a brewpub with production and a bar. The Baladin tour begins in Piozzo's piazza and at the pub where it all began. This part of your stay therefore leads from a specific place in the village to the brewery's beginnings and complements the pumpkin tradition with another regionally rooted culinary theme.
Choose Accommodation to Match Your Interests
When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Piozzo, you can therefore weigh up a stay focused on history, cuisine or landscape. History and architecture, pumpkin and brewing culture, as well as views of the Tanaro Valley and the Langhe, offer different starting points for planning your days. In this way, Piozzo remains a concrete destination: with concise cultural themes, a clearly identifiable local culinary heritage and a landscape between the plain and the hills.
