Revello between art, nature and Monbracco

Revello combines a historically shaped town center with nature-related attractions and trails in the surrounding area. The center lies at the foot of Mombracco; locally, it is called “Leonardo’s Mountain”. The Museo Naturalistico del fiume Po is located in the historic center. In Revello, local history, landscape and insights into natural history thus come together within a closely connected thematic setting.

Art and history in the town center

The Collegiata della Beata Vergine Assunta was built from 1483 onward and designed in the Piedmontese Gothic style. Its façade is notable for the Renaissance portal by Matteo Sanmicheli, dated 1534. The furnishings also include an altarpiece dated 1503 and attributed to Hans Clemer. Several periods can therefore be traced through a single building.

The Cappella Marchionale is located in the only surviving tower of the former castle of Revello. It is designed in the Late Gothic style, has a single nave and a semicircular apse. Around the 15th century, it was completely decorated with frescoes. Guided tours are offered by prior reservation and provide a clear chronological and architectural framework for the visit.

Nature between the Po area and Staffarda

The Museo Naturalistico del fiume Po is open to everyone and has a room for film screenings as well as a small educational laboratory. The geological section displays green stones from the Monviso area, from which valuable jadeite pieces were once extracted. The museum therefore ranges from regional geology to accessible presentations of natural history topics.

The ZSC “Boschi e colonie di Chirotteri di Staffarda” also extends across Revello and is managed by the Parco del Monviso. An infrared monitor at the ZSC allows visitors to observe the bat colony without disturbing it. On the grounds of the Tenuta agricola di Staffarda, around 1,200 female bats gather each year, around April, during the breeding season.

Trails, views and breaks

A trail runs along the old fortified walls and offers views towards Saluzzo. It reaches the Cappella di Santa Sofia, beside which there is a picnic area and a fountain. The Cappella di Santa Sofia dates from the 17th century and is surrounded by numerous picnic tables. The Falesia di Santa Lucia is equipped with climbing routes.

Along the Cappelle di Revello trail, the Campanile delle Ore stands in a particularly panoramic location. This makes it possible to combine culture and exercise along different sections without treating the historic buildings and the landscape as separate themes.

Putting Staffarda into practical context

The Abbazia di Santa Maria di Staffarda comprises an abbey church and a square cloister. Tours of the abbey are organized by the Associazione Dialogart and must be reserved. Free parking is available in the forecourt in front of the abbey. A free downloadable audioguide app is also available for the visit in Italian, English, French and German.

For orientation between Revello, Saluzzo, Cavour and Staffarda, Granda-Bus route 112 is relevant: the Abbazia di Santa Maria di Staffarda can be reached from Saluzzo and Cavour on this route.
