Riassolo: Panoramic Trail, Cycling Route and Culture

Riassolo lies in the southeastern part of the municipality of Vezza d'Alba on Piacenzian deposits. This geographical setting combines with trails, cultural sites and a history of regional varieties. This creates a destination that you can explore through movement, art, natural history and local features.

Hiking and Cycling

The Sentiero della Pera Madernassa runs through the municipality of Vezza d'Alba as an 8 km-long, easy panoramic trail through cultivated areas, vineyards and hazelnut groves. Its route passes through the village of Riassolo. At eight kilometres in length and with an easy profile, the panoramic trail provides two concrete parameters for planning your day.

At the Rio Gavel, after passing through Riassolo, there is a connection to the Sentiero dell'Acino. The village also has a specific connection to a cycling route: the sixth stage of the Roero Bike Tour leads from Borbore to Riassolo and runs there between the houses of the village. The sixth stage of the Roero Bike Tour places Riassolo within a route that extends beyond the village. After the section through Riassolo, the stage reaches the valley floor of the Rio Gavel.

Art, Sacred Spaces and Natural History

In the municipality of Vezza d'Alba, the Madonna dei Boschi preserves a late-15th-century Gothic fresco of the Annunciation. Visits inside the Madonna dei Boschi are currently possible only by prior reservation with the municipality or the administrator. Also in the municipality of Vezza d'Alba, the Chiesa di San Bernardino is used for temporary exhibitions as well as concerts of sacred and classical music. Historical art, exhibitions and musical events therefore provide different cultural points of reference. In San Bernardino, exhibitions and concerts stand in contrast to a single fresco depiction at the Madonna dei Boschi.

At the Museo Naturalistico del Roero, the natural history room displays nine habitats of significance to the Roero, as well as numerous bird specimens alongside their associated nests.

The Madernassa Pear as a Regional Reference

The Madernassa pear is an indigenous variety; its parent plant originated in 1784 in the village of Madernassa.
