Roburent Among Mountain Ridges, Routes and History

Roburent lies at an altitude of 800 metres on a broad mountain ridge between the Corsaglia and Casotto valleys. Its location combines mountain scenery with a remarkably multifaceted history. Routes, Views and Mountain-Biking Experiences

One specific tour leads from Roburent via San Bernardo to Monte Savino. It begins behind the parish church of Roburent and ends at the 1,089-metre-high summit. From there, views extend across the Ligurian Alps and parts of the Mondovì plain. Another option is the “Anello della Navonera” circular route, which is considered a classic mountain-bike route and can also be explored on foot.

The Monte Alpet Bike Village near Cardini in Roburent is also of interest to cyclists. It is set in a natural environment and offers facilities for sports enthusiasts and families with children. These include a bicycle workshop, rental of downhill, freeride and e-bikes, protective-equipment rental and a bike-washing area. Five routes of increasing difficulty allow for a graduated choice within the Bike Village.

Hamlets, Trails and Winter in the Area

The “Forni del Monte Alpet” route starts and ends in Prà di Roburent and is 7,610 metres long. It passes through small hamlets, each of which has a restored communal oven. At Case Rosa, you can also take a close look at the traditional “tetto racchiuso” roofing technique. Parking is available for this route near Prà di Roburent.

The area also offers various attractions in winter. Sangiacomo Cardini Ski has 35 kilometres of pistes, beginning at the facilities near the hamlet of San Giacomo di Roburent and in the village of Cardini. The lifts connect the village at an altitude of 1,011 metres with Monte Alpet at 1,611 metres. In the Sangiacomo Cardini area, you can explore numerous snowshoe routes independently or with a guide.

Historical Sites and Piedmontese Culture

The fortified complex in Roburent dates back to the 11th century. Its preserved round tower is called “La Saracena” and became a symbol of Roburent because of its elevated position. In the hamlet of San Giacomo stands a church built in the mid-18th century in the Piedmontese Baroque style.

In the hamlet of Prà, several places preserve the memory of the Salt War. The conflict’s final battles took place there on 8 March 1699; many farmhouses were destroyed by fire. The rock above Prà is still called “Rocca dei morti” today, in memory of the Salt War.

The cultural calendar also includes the international puppet-theatre festival “Sangiacomo in Festival”. It takes place from 26 July to 2 August 2026 in San Giacomo di Roburent and is organised by the Istituto Italiano della Marionetta. In Roburent, the “Savin” cultural association organises the “La quercia del Myr” literary competition, which is open to Italian and foreign authors.
