Rodello on the Ridge

Rodello is located on a ridge. From here, the view stretches across Alba and the Tanaro plain to the distant Alps. This gives the town a clearly defined landscape setting combined with an unusually rich cultural profile. If you would like to combine art, church history, local wine traditions and activities at a leisurely pace during your trip, Rodello offers several different points of connection for this.

Churches and Local History

One of Rodello’s two facing bell towers belongs to the parish church of San Lorenzo. It was built in 1788. The parish church itself was built on the site of an older church dedicated to Saint Lawrence. This older church was probably the church of the castle belonging to the Falletti counts. The bell tower of San Lorenzo was built in 1788; the parish church itself stands on the site of the older Church of Saint Lawrence.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception

In 1749, Abbot Michele Falletti commissioned the construction of the Church of the Immaculate Conception at his own expense. The church is Baroque in design; its interior is shaped like a Greek cross. Three altars with eighteenth-century altarpieces complement the architectural design. The three altars with eighteenth-century altarpieces are part of the furnishings of this Baroque interior. In the local dialect, the church is still called “Gesa di Batù”; the Italian name is “Chiesa dei Battuti”.

Sacred Art at Two Locations

The Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art is spread across two locations: the Church of the Immaculate Conception and La Residenza. There, the museum displays a collection of more than 200 works by Dedalo Montali. The works are organized according to thematic and chronological criteria, combining different approaches to Montali and his art.

The chapel of the “La Residenza” complex is also connected with Dedalo Montali. He designed and built it in the early 1970s. Every year, “Rodello Arte” gives a selected group of artists the opportunity to explore, during an artist residency, themes that connect the sacred with another subject. The program concludes with a group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art in Rodello.

Dolcetto and Leisurely-Paced Routes

The local wine is represented by the municipal winery “Cantina Comunale del Dolcetto d'Alba di Rodello”. The “Enoteca Comunale del Dolcetto D'Alba” is located at Piazza V. Emanuele 11, 12050 Rodello (CN). Dolcetto is thus represented at two municipal locations within Rodello: the winery and the enoteca.
