Valdivilla between Wine and Remembrance

Valdivilla is known for wine, churches and remembrance culture. The Chiesa di San Rocco is a subsidiary church and was first mentioned in 1773. The parish church of Santa Margherita Vergine e Martire in the Valdivilla hamlet is characterised by frescoes dating from 1900. Together, the two churches give the village a distinct cultural character. The 1900 frescoes provide a different historical emphasis from the first mention of San Rocco in 1773.

Wine and Local Experiences

For wine enthusiasts, Cantine Mongioia’s Premium Experience begins with a guided cellar tour. It includes a tasting of seven wines: five Moscato wines, as well as Langhe Nebbiolo and Langhe Arneis. At Ca’ del Principe, visitors can book a cellar tour, taste wines, sample local products and explore the surrounding area. A specific historical reference is the partisan remembrance trail dedicated to “Pinin” Balbo. It runs from Alba via San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, Treiso, Neviglie, Neive and Valdivilla to Mango and San Donato di Mango. The Monumento alla Seconda Divisione Langhe e a Giovanni Balbo consists of three memorial stones; the middle and tallest stone is dedicated to Giovanni Balbo. The monument marks the exact site of a massacre in which Giovanni Balbo was among those killed. An annual commemoration for the II Divisione Langhe was held in Valdivilla.

As a small visual highlight, the Panchina Letteraria in Località Valdivilla is a selfie spot in Valdivilla. The Casa Natale di Cesare Pavese museum is located in the immediate vicinity of Valdivilla. The surrounding area is also home to Castello di Rorà, Castello di Bubbio and Museo Federico Eusebio.
