Cureggio combines an established architectural heritage with a rural setting and its own culinary tradition. In the surrounding areas, meadows, forests, vineyards and cultivated fields shape the landscape. At the same time, the Cureggio and Fontaneto Blond Onion represents a special product of the Province of Novara: The growing area includes Cureggio and Fontaneto d’Agogna. The traditional onion from the plain of Cureggio and Fontaneto is golden-blond and exceptionally sweet; its sweetness remains for many months after harvesting.

Historic Buildings and Sacred Art

An important landmark is the Battistero di San Giovanni o di Santa Maria Assunta. The baptistery dates back to the early 12th century and was renovated in the 16th and 18th centuries. Its octagonal interior contains four semicircular apses. Traces of the baptismal font can also be seen, making it possible to read both the spatial design and the building’s historical use.

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta contains 16th-century frescoes and polychrome marble altars from the 18th century. The Church of San Pietro in Marzalesco has a semicircular apse and valuable 15th-century frescoes. Together with the Baptistery, these two churches offer different perspectives on sacred architecture and furnishings from different periods.

Museums and Regional Topics

Cureggio’s historical character also includes the partially preserved mill equipment of the Mulino Congera. It includes a waterfall or cascade and a wooden wheel that is now disengaged. The TAM is a museum and research centre with historical and archaeological tours. These are intended for schools, families and tourists and are freely available for consultation.

The Museo “Come Eravamo”, a museum, is located in the immediate vicinity of Cureggio. The surrounding area also contains the Museo Gottard Park, a museum, Arteadarona, a museum, and the Museo Archeologico, also a museum. The four institutions complement the architectural heritage with further cultural points of interest, without their themes having to be combined into a single tour.

Landscape, Outdoor Activities and Regional Excursion Destinations

Those wishing to discover Cureggio through its landscape will find a mix of meadows, wooded areas, vineyards and cultivated fields in the surrounding areas. The immediate vicinity also includes an area called “Unnamed Park”, classified as a park. The Nordic walking trail near Cureggio includes a flat and easy section near Cascina Balchi.

In the wider region around Cureggio are the Grotte di Ara, a cave, and the Montefenera Caves, a cave system or cave. The Spiaggia dei Caravalle, a beach, is also located in the wider surrounding area. These destinations extend the view beyond Cureggio’s immediate landscape and offer different themes for planning your trip: caves and geological spaces on the one hand, and a beach stay on the other.
