Orta San Giulio lies on the eastern shore of Lake Orta, opposite Isola di San Giulio. The village is characterised by narrow, winding streets lined with historic houses and Baroque palazzi featuring covered courtyards and wrought-iron balconies. This gives the town a distinctive historic appearance combined with its lakeside setting. From the Lake to the Island

From Piazza Motta, you can board boats to Isola di San Giulio and for round trips on Lake Orta. A public boat service allows tourists to cross the lake and visit Isola di San Giulio; the service operates daily from March to October. The small island is also traversed by the “Via del Silenzio”, a short circular route around the island. Together with the boat crossing, it forms a distinct island experience, separate from the church and art themes of Sacro Monte and Santa Maria Assunta.

Along the Lungo Lago, the Passeggiata sul Lungo Lago is one of the walking routes. It includes a paved section and a section along the lakeshore. In addition, the Orta–Corconio–Orta circular route starts at Piazza Motta.
