Val Della Torre: Tower, Churches and Mountain Trails

Val Della Torre reveals its character through buildings, sacred spaces and mountain trails. The Torre is a symbol of Val della Torre. It was rebuilt in the 20th century in the medieval style on the walls of the park of the former Villa dei Conti Rossi di Montelera. This striking building thus combines a medieval-influenced style with the history of a former villa.

Culture between Borgate and Churches

In Borgata Castello, northwest of Val della Torre, the Cappella di San Martino stands at the foot of the mountain. The sacred building has a rectangular floor plan divided into two naves. Its location and clear basic form make it a tangible element of the local architecture.

The Chiesa di San Donato Vescovo e Martire was built between 1687 and 1723 in Baroque forms. It houses a wooden statue of Saint Donatus dated 1763, a work by the sculptor Stefano Maria Clemente. The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Spina, by contrast, reveals Romanesque-Gothic origins; it was consecrated on 30 December 1283. It was formerly a monastery belonging to the abbey of the same name, which was dissolved in December 1601.

Hiking Trails through Varied Landscapes

Sentiero 004 reaches the Madonna della Bassa sanctuary at an altitude of 1,152 metres and offers panoramic views of the sanctuary and across the entire Casternone Valley. Its first section leads through a beech forest and then across a scree slope that is partly colonised by pioneer plants. Forest, scree and distant views shape this trail in clearly distinct sections.

Sentiero 018 follows a long panoramic traverse above the Val della Torre basin, the surrounding mountains, the hills around Turin and the plain below. Sentiero 011 leads from Borgata Bussoneis via Madonna della Bassa to Monte Arpone at an altitude of 1,600 metres. The trail is approximately 5.7 kilometres long, has an ascent of 980 metres, takes about three hours and has a difficulty rating of E.

Cycling Loop, Protected Area and Culinary Event

The area also offers a broad range of opportunities for cycling. The Anello Ceronda Mountain Bike is an approximately 80-kilometre cycling and hiking loop. It leads through the Ceronda and Casternone valleys up to the technical trails around Colle del Lys. Thus, in addition to individual hiking trails, longer tour connections are also a central feature.

The Zona Speciale di Conservazione Monte Musinè e Laghi di Caselette extends across the municipalities of Almese, Caselette, San Gillio and Val della Torre. The Sagra del Salame di Cinghiale added a distinctive culinary highlight: its 20th edition took place on 30 March 2025.
