Sauze d'Oulx: Ski Area, Mountain Trails and Historic Town Centre

Sauze d'Oulx combines winter sports with a well-established Alpine history and a variety of trails through the surrounding landscape. The village is part of the international Vialattea ski area and is connected to the other resorts in the area by numerous ski lifts. With 400 kilometres of skiable runs across more than 300 pistes, Vialattea provides an extensive setting for days in the snow. At the same time, the village remains interesting beyond skiing thanks to its historic buildings and the natural surroundings between the Susa Valley and Chisone Valley.

Sauze d'Oulx is home to Vialattea's snow park. It includes jumps, kickers, rails and wall rides, giving it a distinctive place within the range of winter sports activities. Church and settlement history

At the heart of the old settlement stands the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista, built in 1532. Inside, an impressive wooden choir gallery and an 18th-century altarpiece on the high altar stand out. The bell tower is built in the Dauphiné Romanesque style and gives the structure a distinctive architectural detail. The church can be reached on foot and by car and has no architectural barriers.

Antica fontana on Piazza Assietta

The Antica fontana di Sauze d'Oulx is located directly beside the Church of San Giovanni Battista. The octagonal fountain was built in the 16th century and is situated on Piazza Assietta. The Antica fontana is also easily accessible to people with reduced mobility. The church, bell tower and fountain can therefore be viewed as separate historic stops in the old settlement area, without conflating their distinct features.

Forests, watersheds and mountain trails

The area around Sauze d'Oulx offers hikes and cycling tours through coniferous forests or along watershed ridges between the Susa Valley and Chisone Valley. A circular route starts at the Sauze d'Oulx tourist office and returns there. Along the way, it passes through Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Nature Park and follows part of the network of military roads on the watershed ridge between the two valleys. This combination of forest, altitude and historically shaped trails gives the landscape several different perspectives.

Short trails with clearly defined difficulty levels

A trail from the Stazione Sperimentale Alpina to Lago Laune at an altitude of 2,043 metres is approximately 1.52 kilometres long, takes about 45 minutes and has the easy T difficulty rating. Another hike leads from Gran-Villard-Laghetto to Monfol. It is approximately 1.9 kilometres long, takes about 40 minutes and has the moderate E difficulty rating. Near Lago Laune, visitors can also buy cheese at Malga Alpe Laune. The different distances, walking times and difficulty levels help you place the two trails appropriately within your daily itinerary.
