Discover Venaria Reale: Reggia, Gardens and La Mandria

Venaria Reale combines impressive court culture with an expansive landscape. The Reggia di Venaria, the Borgo Antico, the gardens and La Mandria nature park offer different ways to explore history, architecture and nature. This makes the destination suitable for a trip in which you want not only to visit individual rooms, but also to consciously connect historical contexts and landscapes.

The Reggia and its grand rooms

The visitor route through the Reggia di Venaria extends for almost 2,000 metres between the basement and the piano nobile. This span alone makes it clear that the route connects different levels and perspectives. One particularly striking room is the Galleria Grande: it is approximately 80 metres long and 12 metres wide, and reaches a height of about 15 metres at the centre of its vault.

The Reggia also houses a collection of more than 500 works. These include paintings, sculptures, tapestries, furniture, clocks and musical instruments. The Bucintoro dei Savoia adds to this cultural picture: it is the only surviving original example of its kind anywhere in the world. Borgo Antico and Savoy residences

The Borgo Antico welcomes visitors with historic architecture, a long vista and its royal history. In the 17th century, it formed the ceremonial entrance leading visitors to the Sala di Diana in the Reggia. Its significance is therefore revealed not only through individual buildings, but also through the combination of route design, staging and the courtly arrival experience.

The Castello di Venaria is one of the Savoy residences that formed the “Crown of Delights” around Turin. This classification places Venaria Reale within a broader historical context around Turin and complements the immediate impression of the Reggia with a regional perspective.

Gardens and La Mandria nature park

The Royal Potager is located in the lower park of the Reggia’s gardens. It covers approximately 10 hectares and expands the architectural complex with a clearly defined garden area. La Mandria nature park has a different focus: the Parco Naturale Regionale La Mandria covers 6,570 hectares and preserves remaining lowland oak forests interspersed with meadows and bodies of water.

The Parco Naturale La Mandria has trails for horseback riding and carriage rides. Within this landscape, the Castello della Mandria lies amid the nature park’s 3,000 hectares of meadows and forests. The Castello includes Royal Apartments rich in art and history and is considered the preferred residence of the first king of Italy.

Getting there and choosing where to stay

The Reggia di Venaria is located approximately 10 kilometres from Turin and can be reached by train, bus, car, bicycle or aeroplane. The SFM4, SFM6 and SFM7 railway lines serve the Reggia di Venaria. From the Reggia di Venaria stop, it is approximately 500 metres on foot through the Borgo Antico to the ticket office.
