Villa San Pietro between History and Coastal Landscapes

Villa San Pietro combines historical sites in the town and surrounding area with beaches nearby. If you would like to combine cultural heritage with excursions through different landscapes during your trip, you will find several distinct points of interest here: from churches and prehistoric burial chambers to traces of nuragic settlements and ancient sites. Churches and Traces in the Town Centre

The Chiesetta San Pietro stands in Piazza San Pietro in the centre of Villa San Pietro. Also associated with the name San Pietro is the Chiesa di San Pietro, which is dated to the late 13th century. Thus, in the town you will encounter two ecclesiastical points of reference that can be distinguished by their names and historical classification.

A specific landmark is the Nuraghe Mereu on Monte Mereu. The structure is still partly hidden underground and is located on the border between Sarroch and Villa San Pietro. From paved roads, the Nuraghe Mereu can be reached on foot via paths only a few dozen metres long. This combination of archaeological evidence and a short walking distance makes the site interesting for an independent visit.

The Nuragic Period and Prehistoric Burial Sites

Porcili Mannu is one of the well-known archaeological sites with remains of nuragic villages in the Villa San Pietro area. At least three giants' tombs are recognised in the Villa San Pietro area: Su Cuccumeu, Perda e' accuzzai and Su Lilloni.

In addition, the Villa San Pietro area contains Domus de Janas, prehistoric burial chambers carved into the rock.

Museum, Churches and Nora in the Surrounding Area

Several destinations outside the immediate town area can also be included in a travel itinerary around Villa San Pietro. The Museo Civico Giovanni Patroni is located in the vicinity of Villa San Pietro. The church Chiesa di San Giovani is in the same surrounding area; the church Parrocchia S.
