Buggerru: Mining History on the Coast
Buggerru combines traces of a long mining tradition with beaches and coves by the sea. This allows you to organise your days according to your interests, moving between culture, landscapes and water sports without losing the distinct character of each.
Near the port of Buggerru, the Museo del Minatore is housed in a restored former building used for a mechanical workshop and carpentry. The museum’s civic section tells the story of Buggerru. The Museo delle macchine da miniera is also nearby and focuses on mining machinery.

Traces of Mining
The Galleria Henry is a historic site in the vicinity of Buggerru. The Galleria Henry experience combines a tunnel system carved into the rock with smaller tunnels and rock passages offering views of the sea cliffs. For orientation on site, the starting point at the main square is important: from there, the Galleria Henry can only be reached on foot. You can park your car at the main square; after about 100 metres, you will reach the ticket office.
The Palazzina della Direzione Mineraria is also part of Buggerru’s mining history. It was the first building constructed for the prominent figures involved in the emerging mining activity; its construction dates back to 1884–1885. Another viewpoint in the vicinity of Buggerru is the Passeggiata panoramica di Nebida.
Beaches and Mistral
Spiaggia di Buggerru is located by the town’s port. Crystal-clear water, soft golden sand and a gently sloping seabed define its character. When the Mistral blows, the bay at Spiaggia di Buggerru is suitable for surfing.
South of Buggerru lies Cala Domestica, a cove surrounded by high cliffs, dunes and Mediterranean scrub. It preserves traces of Buggerru’s mining history and is characterised by a Spanish tower. The beaches in the immediate vicinity of Buggerru also include Spiaggia di Cala Domestica and Spiaggia di Portixeddu.
Spiaggia di San Nicolò is a beach about three kilometres long, with golden, soft sand and Mediterranean scrub inland. It connects Buggerru with Portixeddu in the municipality of Fluminimaggiore. When the Mistral blows, Spiaggia di San Nicolò offers wave conditions appreciated by surfers. Portu Cauli lies in the wider regional area around Buggerru and is also a beach.
