Archaeological traces around San Basilio and Sa Conca Frabica

Within the municipal area of Ollolai, the San Basilio Archaeological Park (Santu Basili) includes several funerary monuments carved into Tafone dating from the Middle Neolithic around 4000 BC. At Sa Conca Frabica, the history of use extends to the Iron Age and even to the Imperial period. The archaeological timespan therefore ranges from the funerary monuments of the Middle Neolithic to the use of Sa Conca Frabica in the Imperial period.

San Basilio: Rural church, access road and park

The rural church of San Basilio Magno is of Byzantine origin and was later used by Franciscans. From Ollolai, San Basilio can be reached via an approximately 2 km-long paved road. You can park in a large gravel parking area or continue another 100 m along the road to the park. When planning your day, the approximately 2 km to the rural church and the additional 100 m to the park can be considered as separate sections of the route; on this access road, the section to the church is clearly much longer than the final section to the park.

Sant’Antonio da Padova in the oldest settlement area

The church of Sant’Antonio da Padova stands in the oldest settlement area of Ollolai and probably served as a parish church before San Michele Arcangelo was built. Every year on 17 January, a large blessed fire is lit in the square in front of the church during the celebration of Sant’Antonio Abate. For good luck, the faithful walk around the fire three times. The tradition is thus tied to the church square and a fixed date in January.

Sasisòrgiu with granite boulders, woodland and dry-stone walls

The Sasisòrgiu route passes through a landscape with large granite boulders and dense woodland. Between the boulders are rock cavities formed by their overlapping; there are also moss-covered dry-stone walls. Sasisòrgiu therefore combines striking rock formations, rock cavities, woodland and vegetation-covered walls.

San Michele Arcangelo: Chapel and works of art

The parish church of San Michele Arcangelo preserves a Gothic chapel from the earlier church building. The church also contains a large crucifix painted by Franco Bussu. Some panels are by the painter Carmelo Floris from Olzai. The chapel belongs to the earlier church building, while the crucifix and panels are additional furnishings in the church.

Palu de Sos Vihinados in the town center

On Saturday, 11 July 2026, Palu de Sos Vihinados will take place as a nighttime race from 9:00 p.m. in Piazza Marconi in the town center of Ollolai.

Pane ‘ine as a local name

The local bread, known in Ollolai as pane ‘ine, is also part of everyday life in the town. The local name pane ‘ine thus continues to refer directly to the local bread in Ollolai.
