Muntiggioni – Village History, Culture and Rural Character

The Chiesa di San Francesco

A prominent place in the area around Muntiggioni is the Chiesa di San Francesco. It was built in 1995 and is dated to that year. In Sardinian, it is called Santu Franziscu di li Mucci. Its location is also specific: the church lies halfway between Muntiggioni and Azzagulta and offers an impressive view of the coast and the municipal forest. The church and the festival bear the same saint's name, meaning that both themes are closely connected in the village landscape of Muntiggioni.

Festa di San Francesco and Local Events

The Festa di San Francesco is the patronal festival of Muntiggioni and Azzagulta, two hamlets of Badesi. The celebrations include collecting the flags and a procession through the municipality's streets.

Other events also focus on different themes. At one edition of “Libri al Tramonto,” graphic novels by Lorenzo Cuccuru were presented and art panels about banditry were exhibited at Piazzale San Francesco in Muntiggioni. Downhill mountain bike competitions are also organized in Muntiggioni.
