Budoni between Coast, Wetlands and Culture
Budoni is located about 30 kilometres south of the port and airport of Olbia. The town can be reached via the four-lane SS 131 d.c.n. and the SS 125. For arrival by boat, Porto Ottiolu offers berthing, shipyard and support services for boats, as well as a waterfront promenade with shops, bars and restaurants.

Coastal Ponds and Coastal Landscapes
The coastal area of Budoni includes five coastal ponds: Li Cucutti, Li Salineddi, Stagno Morto, Sant’Anna and Stagno di Porto Ainu. Salamaghe offers turquoise, crystal-clear water, a green pine forest and a species-rich coastal pond. The ponds of Budoni are home to wintering greater flamingos, egrets and ospreys.
The wetlands of the former province of Olbia-Tempio are also home to the purple swamphen, which is protected under the Habitats Directive; its population there is estimated at 20 to 30 breeding pairs. Alongside coastal views, wetlands and wildlife observation are therefore also defining natural themes around Budoni.
Traditions and Nuragic Culture
The Museum dello Stazzo e della bäuerlichen Zivilisation consists of three rooms. These include the photographic room “Come eravamo”, about the everyday life and occupations of the inhabitants of Budoni and its districts that are no longer practised today. The museum was created to rediscover old traditions and, in particular, to reassess the stazzo. Visitors can also see tools used by farmers who lived in the traditional stazzi of Gallura.
The Nuraghe Conca ’e Bentu stands in Solità and is an important testament to Nuragic culture. The single-room tower structure has a central chamber and three cross-shaped niches. The statue Madonna degli Abissi was first installed on 8 August 2001; since then, an event with a boat procession, music and entertainment has been celebrated every 8 August.
Guided Trails and Excursions
The guided Itinerario ArcheoSensoriale in Solità is an easy, 3-kilometre walk lasting 3 hours through fields, olive groves and Mediterranean maquis to the Nuraghe Conca ’e Bentu and the Domus de Janas. The trail “Il Porto Nascosto” begins at a small beach north of the marina of Porto Ottiolu and leads through Mediterranean maquis via Cala dei Francesi, Poltu Cuatu and Punta Li Tulchi.
The cycling experience “Budoni verso sud” begins on Via Nazionale and heads towards the beaches of the Baia di Budoni through the southern part of the Budoni area. During rides from the riding facility, a trail leads through the pine forest of Agrustos past small hidden coves to the Li Cucutti pond; greater flamingos may possibly be observed there. Ayó a Pesca A.S.D. accompanies adults and children while snorkelling in the species-rich seabed of the Tavolara and Molara marine protected area.
