La Muddizza is a hilly, rather secluded and panoramic district of Valledoria. Its landscape stretches across green valleys to views of the sea. Landscape and Hiking
The “Trekking la Muddizza” hiking trail is 50 minutes from Valledoria. Travel planning can include it as a separate excursion alongside exploring La Muddizza. This keeps the connection between the district, Valledoria and the hiking trail spatially clear.
Connections and Orientation
From June 17, 2026, a shuttle bus is expected to connect the town center of Valledoria and the districts of La Ciaccia and La Muddizza with the beaches. For mobility between the town center, the districts and the coast, this planned connection is one of the time-specific aspects of travel planning.
Church and Townscape
The parish church of Nostra Signora di Fatima in La Muddizza was built from sandstone between 1948 and 1954. It has an elliptical floor plan with a lowered portico. A new square was inaugurated next to the church to make it more accessible and easier to use.
Fatima Tradition and Religious History
The Chiesa della Madonna di Fatima is a symbol of the community’s identity; an extraordinary story connects it directly with the Vatican. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Fatima, the church of La Muddizza was recognized by Pope Francis as a jubilee church. Pilgrimages were possible there from May 13 to October 13. The Nostra Signora di Fatima church also houses a large statue of its patron saint, donated by Pope Pius XII.
Festivals, Markets and Local Character
On the second Sunday in August, La Muddizza celebrates the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, who is the co-patron of the parish. For summer 2013, the evening Mercatini Estivi were scheduled on alternating days in the town center of Valledoria and in the districts of La Ciaccia and La Muddizza. At the summer markets in La Muddizza at that time, visitors could purchase handicrafts, fashion jewelry, works of art, as well as gastronomic and oenological products. The festival, market and religious tradition show different sides of local life.
Local Winegrowing
Cantina Ligios adds another local accent. This small family-run winegrowing business handles every step of wine production: from tending the vines to bottling, packaging and marketing. This makes it possible to get to know winegrowing as an independent part of the local character and to place it alongside the landscape, architecture and festival culture.
