Romanesque Architecture and Medieval History
Nostra Signora di Tergu is a Romanesque-Pisan basilica that was later partially altered in Gothic and Baroque styles. Its distinctive impact is also created by its location: the basilica rises above an extensive trachyte plateau and is built from red trachyte and white limestone.
The most important Benedictine monastery in Anglona stood at the medieval site of Nostra Signora di Tergu, with a Cassinese priory attached to it. This gives you access to several historical layers that are connected at this site, without reducing the basilica to its architecture alone.

Monte Elias and Archaeological Traces
Monte Elias is a mountain in the immediate surroundings of Tergu. The archaeological site there preserves a rectilinear-curvilinear section of wall measuring 120 metres in length and up to 5 metres in height. The site was still used during Roman times, as evidenced by ceramic finds and two burial stelae of Punic tradition.
A municipal road leads to the Monte Elias site and is approximately 1.5 kilometres long to its end; the hill is then circumnavigated on foot via the northern side. This information is particularly helpful if you would like to combine a visit to historic sites with time outdoors.
Landscape Between Mountains, Sea and Beaches
The immediate surroundings of Tergu also offer distinctive landscape features. Monte Giunnalias is a mountain in the immediate surroundings of Tergu. From Nuraghe Tudderi, the panoramic view extends as far as the sea. Spiaggia di Lu Bagnu and Spiaggia di Punta Li Paddimi are beaches in the area around Tergu and complement the historic destinations with a clear focus on the landscape.
In the wider regional surroundings lies Castello dei Doria - Chiaramonti, a castle. The area around Tergu also includes Castelsardo Castle, likewise a castle, and the Museo dell'Intreccio Mediterraneo, a museum. Roccia dell'Elefante is a ruin site in the immediate surroundings of Tergu. The range of possible excursion destinations therefore extends from archaeological traces and castles to a museum, ruin site and beach.
