Historical Impressions and Immersive Culture

The Castello di Cammarata was built in the 13th century as the residence of the Lords of Cammarata. The building therefore represents a specific period in the town’s history. In addition, the Museo immersivo San Giacomo offers an experience that combines memory, technology and emotion. Cammarata’s cultural side therefore focuses not only on architecture, but also on a contemporary form of interpretation.

There are no regular visiting hours for the Castello di Cammarata. A guided tour generally has to be arranged in order to visit it. At the Museo immersivo San Giacomo, visits are available on weekdays by prior arrangement for groups of at least 10 people. These conditions are particularly important if you want to include cultural stops as fixed parts of your daily itinerary.

Festivals with Local Character

The festival in honour of San Nicola di Bari takes place in Cammarata every year on 6 December. The festival includes a procession in which the statue of the saint is carried through the streets of Cammarata. The date and the programme give the festival a clearly defined place in the annual calendar and make it a special cultural point of reference when planning a trip around this day.

Monte Cammarata and Nature Reserve

Cammarata accounts for 60.78% of the area of the Riserva Naturale Orientata Monte Cammarata. The reserve features peaks shaped by erosion, gorges and steep rock faces, and is home to a diverse bird population. Monte Cammarata is mainly reached via the nature trails of the Parco dei Monti Sicani; marked paths lead uphill from Cammarata. In the surroundings of Cammarata, the Savochello-Monte Cammarata recreation area also has toilets, barbecue areas, cycling routes and nature trails.
