Acquaviva Platani is located in the Valle del Platani in the province of Caltanissetta. The town offers you several clearly distinct ways to experience it: a museum dedicated to emigration, historic buildings, ecclesiastical art, a section of the Magna Via Francigena, a festival tradition and a traditional menu. This allows you to incorporate culture, outdoor activity and local flavours into your travel plans and discover Acquaviva Platani from different perspectives.

Places of Culture and Architecture

The Museo dell’Emigrazione is located in C.da Immacolata, inside the Centro Socio Culturale in Acquaviva Platani. The Palazzo Ducale was built on the remains of a Roman thermal complex. Its square courtyard is surrounded by broad pointed-arch arcades resting on pillars; a fountain stands in one corner. The Palazzo Ducale also contains artistic works, including numerous frescoes. The combination of Roman history, distinctive courtyard architecture and murals provides culture-oriented travellers with several specific themes to explore during their time in Acquaviva Platani.

Ecclesiastical Art in the Chiesa Santa Maria della Luce

The Chiesa Santa Maria della Luce was built in 1635 by Prince Spadafora and dedicated to Santa Maria della Luce. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, and the church also has three naves. It houses a wooden crucifix by the sculptor Michele Caltagirone (“il Quarantino”). If you are interested in sacred architecture and individual works of art, the church can be considered a separate cultural highlight. For travel planning, alongside the Palazzo Ducale, the church forms an independent focal point of sacred art.

Sentiero 7 between Acquaviva Platani and Sutera

Sentiero 7 provides another distinct experience. It runs as a section of the Magna Via Francigena from Acquaviva Platani to Sutera. The route is varied and includes hiking trails, paved sections and unpaved paths. It is approximately 9.5 km long and has an elevation difference of 300 m. If you include Sentiero 7 in your travel plans, the different surfaces, approximate route length and elevation profile are important points to consider. For travel planning, the approximate route length combined with the elevation difference can serve as a broad framework. The different surfaces make the route details relevant for practically planning a day of hiking, without reducing the trail to a single type of terrain.

Festival Tradition and Flavour

The Corpus Domini Breccialfiorata reached its eighth edition in 2024 and was held again in 2025. The traditional San Giuseppe menu in Acquaviva Platani included maccheroni with Pecorino cheese, egg cooked in tomato sauce, cardoons, broccoli florets, wild fennel, a small loaf of bread, “teste di turchi”, sfinge, dried fruit and local wine.
