Vallelunga Pratameno: Village History, Festivals and Landscape

Vallelunga Pratameno is characterized by a gently rolling, traditionally agricultural municipal area and a clearly structured town center. Grain, pulses, almonds, grapevines and olives have been cultivated here since time immemorial. The built-up center has a fan-shaped layout; the regular housing blocks are arranged perpendicular to the contour lines. Here, landscape and town structure therefore appear as two defining aspects of the town.

The Chiesa Madre was founded in 1634 at the initiative of Don Pietro Marino. Another historical reference is the former Casamento Scolastico F. P. Perez, which has housed the ethnographic Museo Salvatore Lo Re since 2010. The Oratorio del Divinissimo Sacramento, with its own history of origins, is also part of Vallelunga Pratameno’s cultural character. It was built in 1798 as a result of testamentary provisions made by the brothers Bartolo and Filippo Vullo.

In September, there is also a historical reenactment of the founding of Vallelunga Pratameno, commemorating September 3, 1633. In the afternoon, a historical procession passes through the city’s main streets.

During the celebration of San Giuseppe, visitors can visit the Tavolate spread throughout the town as part of a walking tour. At these Tavolate, families offer visitors samples of food. The celebration thus combines religious expression, routes through the town and an immediately tangible local food culture.
