Chiesa Madre and Chiesa delle Anime Sante: Church Art Spanning Several Periods

The Chiesa Madre has a main altar made of polychrome marble, completed in 1921. Above it stands an 18th-century statue of the Immaculate Conception. This makes the church interior accessible to you through a precisely dated altar and an older religious representation.

The building itself also combines different periods: the Chiesa Madre is an 18th-century structure built on the site of a 16th-century predecessor. Its layout is defined by three naves. The church also houses a 17th-century wooden crucifix in the chapel of the Santissimo Crocifisso.

Castello di Resuttano in Norman Times: Historical Role and Local Craftsmanship

During the Norman period, the Castello di Resuttano served as a secure refuge for a garrison and as an efficient transit station.

The Sicilian marranzano is a jew’s harp made of wrought iron, forged hot on the anvil. In his workshop in Resuttano, Giuseppe Alaimo was among the last jew’s harp makers in Sicily. This gives the subject of craftsmanship a specific connection between instrument, material, production method and person.

Resuttano Festivals Between Winter and Spring

Resuttano’s Living Nativity takes place in the historic centre and generally extends over three days: 26 December, the first Sunday in January and 6 January, the day of Epiphany. The period therefore runs from the days after Christmas to the Feast of the Epiphany.

The annual Feast of the Santissimo Crocifisso in Resuttano takes place on 3 and 4 May in the province of Caltanissetta. In advance, the “tavolata dei virgini” is held, a banquet for 12 children at which a wide variety of typical local dishes is served.

15th Stage and Winter Variant: Two Specific Route References for Your Orientation

The 15th stage of the Antica Trasversale Sicula runs from Vallelunga Pratameno via Feudo Tudia to Resuttano. Its route can be followed as a sequence of starting point, intermediate point and destination.

During high water, the winter variant of the Resuttano–Polizzi Generosa stage of La Via dei Frati avoids the ford on the Imera-Salso River and instead follows the SP 19 towards Alimena. For orientation, the key point is the change from the river crossing to the SP 19. The two routes use different reference points: one stage ends in Resuttano, while the other begins there.
