Natural history impressions at Parco delle Kentie

Parco delle Kentie is a 9,000 m² botanical garden with more than 100 plant specimens dating from the early years of the 20th century. The museum area of Parco delle Kentie displays fossils and plant specimens. The laboratory contains a herbarium with approximately 1,800 specimens of species from Mount Etna and Sicily. The thematic scope therefore ranges from historical plant collections to the study of the island and the volcano from a natural history perspective.

Churches and architectural history

Construction of the Basilica di San Pietro began on August 22, 1808, and it opened for worship on December 25, 1818. Its 53 m-high dome was built between 1856 and 1862 based on a design by Mario Di Stefano. On June 5, 1967, the church was elevated to the status of a papal minor basilica.

The Church of Madonna della Lettera is the oldest church in Riposto. Its present appearance dates from 1868. Together with the Basilica di San Pietro, it forms a second cultural focal point in the town, where different phases of local church architecture can be seen.

Seafront promenade and coast

From Riposto, a walk along the seafront promenade leads to Torre Archirafi. There, you can see the coast with its volcanic rocks and the sunset.
