Carruba between Settlement and Coast

Carruba is considered a small settlement of agricultural origin, extending between the SP 91 and the Circumetnea railway line. The SP 91 and the Circumetnea railway line form two fixed reference lines of the settlement area.

The Contrada Gancia is part of the landscape, an area of approximately 12 hectares between Torre Archirafi and Carruba. On the southern coastal stretch near Praiola and Gancia, steep cliffs shape the scenery; in some places they are more than 20 metres high. The steep cliffs define the southern coastal stretch and give it a clearly pronounced elevation profile. The coast near Praiola and Gancia stands out there for its pronounced elevation profile.

Jasmine, Garden and Tastings

The Giardino dei Gelsomini houses a significant collection of jasmines, arranged along an illustrated educational trail. The garden is considered Europe's only garden dedicated entirely to the genera Jasminum and Chrysojasminum.

At Malvarosa, guided tours of the Giardino dei Gelsomini are offered by prior reservation, including for groups. Such a tour includes a walk through the garden followed by a tasting of nursery products based on Malvarosa and jasmine. The tasting thus highlights Malvarosa and jasmine as the basis of the nursery's products.

Lemon Growing and Community Events

The world of local products was also showcased in the programme of “Profumo di Zagara”. It included the hands-on workshop “La provola al limone” and free tastings of products from local businesses. The event in Piazza Stazione in Carruba also included traditional tournaments, children's workshops, cultural gatherings, tastings, theatre and music performances, as well as dance performances. Other programme items served to promote lemons and local products. Within the programme, the lemon connected food production with tastings of local products in Carruba.

At the opening of “Profumo di Zagara”, there was a practical workshop on making Provola dei Nebrodi al Limone, as well as a tasting of products from the exhibiting food businesses.

Church, Art and Remembrance

The summer programme of the municipality of Riposto included “I Festival della canzone” on 20 July at 9 p.m. in Piazza Camuba in Carruba, organised by the association “Insieme per Carruba”.
