Culture between Antiquity and Family History

Capo d'Orlando combines several facets: archaeological evidence, art collections, historic buildings, as well as beach and harbor basins. You can therefore explore the town through different interests, without having to consider culture and a coastal stay separately.

The Area archeologica di Bagnoli is located about three kilometers northeast of Capo d'Orlando. There, the thermal complex from the 3rd century AD comprises eight rooms; the archaeological area in question was attached to a Roman villa. Another distinctive building is the Santuario di Maria Santissima di Capo d'Orlando, also known as the Santuario della Madonna. It stands on the summit of the headland symbolic of the town, within the monumental Castello complex.

The Pinacoteca comunale also offers an introduction to local cultural history: it was established in 1955 after the first exhibition, “Vita e Paesaggio di Capo d'Orlando.” Its collection comprises 382 works, distributed both throughout the rooms of the art gallery and in the offices of the municipal administration. The Antiquarium Comunale “Agatirnide” is an archaeological museum founded on December 20, 2002. The Antiquarium Comunale “Agatirnide” houses archaeological finds from several historical periods, ranging in date from the Bronze Age to the 1st century CE.

Villa Piccolo is a stately villa from the 18th century that was remodeled and expanded at the end of the 19th century. At the Museo di Villa Piccolo, artworks, paintings, ceramics, antique weapons, prints and documents preserve the history of the house. These are joined by the handwritten letters of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Casimiro Piccolo's collection of “acquerelli magici,” portraits and photographs, as well as nearly 2,400 books from the Piccolo family's holdings.

Beach, Highland and Nature Park

At Lungomare Andrea Doria, a freely accessible beach lies directly beside the built-up center of Capo d'Orlando. Castello Bastione offers a different view of the town. The complex is located on a high plateau above Contrada Malvicino in Capo d'Orlando and was probably built around the 17th century. From the summit of Castello Bastione, there is a panorama over the Piana Orlandina and the Aeolian Islands.

The Parco Suburbano di Scafa is an equipped nature park covering approximately four hectares. It has an amphitheater for summer performances as well as picnic and barbecue areas. Thus, Capo d'Orlando's concrete points of interest include not only historic buildings and museums, but also a park offering various opportunities for outdoor use.

Harbor and Seasonal Highlights

The harbor basin of Capo d'Orlando Marina is intended to accommodate 553 berths for boats measuring between 7.5 and 40 meters in length. Limun’aria is listed as an event in Capo d'Orlando for May and June.
