San Paolo between mountain landscapes and history

San Paolo combines a distinctive mountain landscape with traces of local history. On the summit of Monte San Paolo and on a summit 420 m to the southwest, roughly hewn sandstone blocks are partially visible amid dense scrub. A significant clay pit was located on the northern slopes of Monte San Paolo and remained in use until the recent past. The former clay pit is referred to by local microtoponyms such as Ciaramidaro, Ciaramitaro and Fornaci.

Historical traces in the town

A church dedicated to Nostra Signora Madre di Dio is documented in San Paolo in 1729. Historically, the San Paolo district belonged to Patti’s other ceramic production areas.
