Beach, promenade and a special title

Letojanni Centro is listed in the 2026 Blue Flag beach programme. This classification relates to the programme and says nothing about individual accommodations or their facilities. The municipality describes the Lungomare promenade as an area with particularly good accessibility.

Letojanni also has an unusual connection to the history of aviation: it was the first place in Italy to be awarded the title “Città del Volo”.

Museum, crafts and sacred art

The Museo Francesco Durante houses surgical instruments and manuscripts published by Francesco Durante. Another focus is the permanent exhibition of artisanal embroidery. It presents the work of older women from Letojanni who pass on traditional yet original patterns and techniques. Since 2 April 2025, the museum has also offered a virtual format through which people around the world can explore its collections remotely.

In the centre of Letojanni stands the Chiesa di San Giuseppe on Piazza Francesco Durante. The church is designed in the neo-Gothic style. Its furnishings include “La Pietà o Deposizione di Cristo”, an oil painting on canvas by an unknown 18th-century artist, as well as “L'Agonia di San Giuseppe”, an oil painting by Salvatore Frangiamore from 1878. There is also a finely chiselled silver monstrance from the 18th-century school of Messina.

Buildings and festival tradition

Palazzo Silipigni and the Torre Baglio also contribute to Letojanni’s architectural character. Palazzo Silipigni is a small, crenellated neo-Gothic castle with a tower. The Torre Baglio was built in the 16th century to defend the coast.

The Festa a Mare di San Giuseppe also shapes the town’s events calendar. It lasts several days and reaches its climax on the first Sunday in August.
