Nizza di Sicilia appeals to travelers who want to combine beaches, protected landscapes, sacred history, local craft traditions and Sicilian cuisine. The town offers various points of interest for this: from the Spiaggia di Nizza di Sicilia and historic churches to a natural history museum, regional products and local dishes.

Beach and Nature

The Spiaggia di Nizza di Sicilia is one of the beaches in Italy awarded the Blue Flag 2026. Nature is also an important part of the regional surroundings: Nizza di Sicilia is part of the Riserva Naturale Orientata Fiumedinisi e Monte Scuderi, which is connected to the Natura 2000 SAC ITA030010 Fiume Fiumedinisi, Monte Scuderi. In the wider regional area around Nizza di Sicilia, the reserve is home to the rare Sicilian rock partridge (Alectoris graeca whitakeri) as well as breeding birds of prey, including the golden eagle.

Churches and Living History

The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista was built in the 17th century for the residents of Marina di Fiumedinisi, after the creation of the two marinas of Roccalumera and Fiumedinisi. The church contains a painting of Saint John created by Giuseppe Bonsignore in 1843.

The feast of Saint John is celebrated every year on June 24 and includes a traditional mass of the same name on June 22. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is generally open during liturgical celebrations. The annual feast of Saint Joseph in Nizza di Sicilia includes a procession through the town's streets.

Other churches also tell of different origins. The Chiesa di San Giuseppe began as a private chapel of the d'Alcontres princes and was severely damaged by the 1908 earthquake. The Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola was built in 1733 as a chapel of the monastery of the Paolotti monks; it contains a painting of Saint Francis created by the painter Parmigiani. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta was built in 1892 at the initiative of the residents of the Landro-Casapinta district, with their financial contributions and unpaid labor.

Museum, Fishing Quarter and Crafts

The Museo di scienze naturali Nizza di Sicilia is housed in the rooms of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Nizza di Sicilia. It displays minerals from the Peloritani Mountains, Sicily, Italy and abroad. For a possible museum visit, visiting hours are scheduled from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; please confirm these times by telephone.

Ciumareddu is the historic fishing quarter of Nizza di Sicilia. On August 20, 2026, the Ciumareddu Art Fest had reached its fifth edition. The local character also includes the tradition of the Maestri d'ascia. These boat builders shape wood into structures that continue to sail the sea.

Products and Dishes from Nizza di Sicilia

Associated with Nizza di Sicilia are citrus essences, citrus preserves and orange blossom honey made from the Interdonato lemon. Dishes associated with Nizza di Sicilia include pasta with costardelle, the lemon bignè “Le palle del colonnello” and pennette with prawns and lemon. Another attraction is the park “La rocca di Buticiari,” located close to the town and belonging to Nizza di Sicilia.

When choosing accommodation, you can focus on the aspects that matter most to you: beach, nature, church history, museum, fishing quarter, crafts or regional cuisine.
