Discover Finale: Coast, History and Nature
Finale between Coast and History
Finale combines a coastal landscape with buildings that reflect different historical periods. The Torre di Finale is a coastal watchtower belonging to the Spanish fortification system and was built in 1597. It stands above the coastal cliff known as the “scoglio grande.” Here, the coast meets a clearly dated structure from the history of the town.
The Torre di Finale is also known as the Torre del Marchese Ventimiglia di Geraci. It was used as a museum for temporary exhibitions.
Church and Palace as Local History
The Parrocchia Maria SS. della Lettera is located in the center of Finale. Its simple architecture is typical of local traditions. Its interior houses statues, paintings and sacred furnishings. Anyone interested in religious architecture will find a tangible part of the townscape here.
Palazzo Ventimiglia is considered the first settlement center of Finale. It was built in 1700 at the behest of the Marquis of Geraci. Its façade, grand staircase and wrought-iron railing preserve an 18th-century appearance. This makes it possible to explore local history and architectural details in a single building.
Gorges, River Pools and Beach
In the surroundings of Finale, the Gole di Tiberio form an almost 300-meter-long canyon along their main section. The Gole di Tiberio are associated with the UNESCO Global Geoparks and the European Geopark Network; since 2004, they have been part of the Global Geoparks Network. They are also easily accessible from the surroundings of Finale. You can swim in their clear river pools. Here, geological landscapes meet a stay by the water.
The Solarium is one of the long beaches lining the settlement of Finale. This provides a coastal option alongside the river pools of the Gole di Tiberio. When planning your trip, you can therefore take different interests in nature into account without equating the two landscapes.
Local Cuisine and Events
In Finale, seasonal vegetables are combined with a wide range of pizzas. During La Farra di Aprile, restaurants in Finale offered a menu from April 21 to May 4 featuring wild or cultivated local spring vegetables prepared according to old, carefully maintained recipes. At the 2024 Festival della Pizza, Finale had 14 pizza stands, each presenting a different gourmet offering.
On August 21, 2026, the Teatro Parco Urbano in Finale is scheduled to host Francesca Michielin as a stop on her “Strega Comanda Summer Tour 2026.”
When choosing a hotel in Finale, you can therefore clearly separate your interests: coastal and beach access, nature at the Gole di Tiberio, or culture between the Torre, Parrocchia and Palazzo. The culinary events provide another distinct focus.
