Pizzolungo between Coast, Aeneid and Remembrance

When planning a day by the sea, you can consider the beach point on the SP20 separately from the rest of the rocky shore.

Spiaggia di Pizzolungo is suitable for snorkelling; snorkelling and diving are associated with it. If you want to experience the sea actively, this beach is the specific reference point within the town. The activity reference thus remains linked to this beach.

The Monte San Giuliano coastal strip

The coastal strip from the town of Pizzolungo at kilometre 8.5 of Strada Provinciale No. 20 to the western district of Crocefissello at kilometre 9.4 lies within SIC ITA 010010 Monte San Giuliano. For orientation purposes, this landscape reference thus extends from the area near Pizzolungo to Crocefissello and does not encompass just a single beach point.

Aeneid references and distinctive local landmarks

On Piazza Entello, formerly Piazza Lavinia, in Pizzolungo Piana di Anchise, graphic representations in the paving commemorate the Ludi di Aeneas. Pizzolungo is associated with the Ludi di Aeneas from Book V of the Aeneid. A stele in Pizzolungo is dedicated to Anchises. Torre Pizzolungo lies above the southwestern end of the settlement of Pizzolungo; it is visible from the coast. Together with Piazza Entello, this brings both the stele dedicated to Anchises and a tower visible from the coast into focus.

At the entrance to the Parco della memoria “Non ti scordar di me” stands a memorial stele for Barbara Rizzo, Giuseppe Asta and Salvatore Asta. A solemn memorial ceremony takes place in front of this stele.

Connection to Erice

Strada Provinciale No. 20 connects Erice with Pizzolungo. A section of this road damaged by a storm was temporarily closed.
