Oberinn brings together religious history, unrealized recreational plans and trails through a mountain landscape. If you would like to combine different interests on your trip, you will find concrete starting points here for hiking, nature and culture. The selection ranges from a historic religious building and protected meadows to museums and panoramic viewpoints around Auna di Sopra.

The Church of San Leonardo and the History of Oberinn

In Auna di Sopra, the Church of San Leonardo dates back to 1200. It is what is known as a chain church: a chain made of iron votive offerings extends around the church walls.

The development of Oberinn itself also extends beyond individual buildings. The Kuracy of Oberinn, which developed over time, was elevated to an independent parish in the 20th century. The elevation to an independent parish is part of the more recent development, while the health resort plan dates back to the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, Oberinn was intended to become a climatic health resort because of its mild climate at an altitude of 1,300 m; these plans were never implemented.

Hiking Routes with Different Trail Features

The Oberinner Wiesen–Die Schian hiking route starts in Auna di Sopra at the Church of San Leonardo and initially follows the hiking trail marked 4A. It leads to the wayside shrine “Auf der Schian” at an altitude of 1,924 m; from there, a panorama opens up. The altitude of 1,924 m is part of the day planning for the Oberinner Wiesen–Die Schian hike.

The Schelmsteig connects Oberbozen with Oberinn and Wangen. On the way to Oberinn, it passes through three small gorges along a narrow, partly rocky path. On the Schelmsteig, choosing suitable footwear is a specific planning consideration for hikers because of the narrow, partly rocky trail.

Moarmoos and Peaks in the Surrounding Area

Moarmoos, also known as Oberinner Wiesen, is classified as another type of protected area. The Monte Castrale peak is located in the immediate vicinity of Auna di Sopra. The Ortlkopf peak and Monte Pozza mountain are located in the area around Auna di Sopra. The Monte Balzo peak is located in the wider regional surroundings of Auna di Sopra.

The five-minute walk refers to the connection between the stop and the guesthouse, not to the archery course that follows.
