Ala between Festival Culture and History

Ala combines a historic centre with cultural events, architectural history and trails through the landscape. The historic centre preserves its old splendour. Every summer, it hosts Ala Città di Velluto. The event includes concerts, theatre performances, street shows, exhibitions, workshops and food stalls throughout the historic centre. The programme therefore ranges from music and theatre to culinary experiences – a varied opportunity to get to know Ala from a range of different perspectives.

Palazzo de’ Pizzini and the Museo del Pianoforte

A particular cultural highlight is Palazzo de’ Pizzini. The complex consists of three buildings constructed between the late 17th and late 18th centuries. Mozart stayed with his father at Palazzo de’ Pizzini three times in three consecutive years and performed there in the reception hall on the piano nobile. The Museo del Pianoforte preserves rare and historic instruments from the collection of pianist Temenuschka Vesselinova. Guided tours of Palazzo de’ Pizzini are available by prior reservation through the Municipality of Ala’s culture and tourism office.

Baroque Religious History

The Santuario di San Valentino also offers an insight into the history of the surrounding area. The sanctuary was founded in the 14th century. The Santuario di San Valentino acquired its present-day Baroque form through expansion works in 1763. Access is step-free and well signposted. This makes it possible to combine a visit with an interest in older architectural and religious history, without limiting Ala to individual historical periods.

Antica via Ala – Serravalle

The Antica via Ala – Serravalle route represents a combination of exercise, orientation and regional character. It is 11 kilometres long and takes around three hours on foot or just under two hours by bicycle. Along the route, there are 13 points of interest equipped with explanatory signs. The Antica via Ala – Serravalle was created as a food-and-wine route promoted by local wineries. The signposted stops provide several points of thematic interest along the way and make the route appealing for different kinds of exploration.
