Moena combines a well-preserved town center with churches, mountain landscapes and trails for a variety of interests. The center includes fountains, shops, cafés and historic buildings; at the same time, traffic restrictions for cars apply in some areas. For planning your trip, this means that the town can be explored both culturally and through its landscapes and sporting activities.

Culture in the town center

The Church of San Volfango is probably the oldest religious building in Moena. Its interior contains several recently restored frescoes from the second half of the 15th century, as well as a wooden ceiling by the Moena sculptor Giovanni Guadagnini. Art and craftsmanship can be directly connected here with the history of the town.

The Church of San Vigilio stands in an elevated position and offers views of Val San Pellegrino and the Monzoni Group. In Moena, historic religious buildings and distinctive landscape views thus complement each other, without requiring you to limit the character of the town to a single travel interest.

Hiking and landscapes on Alpe Lusia

The Moena–Laghi di Lusia circular trail passes through the wilder nature of Alpe Lusia and leads to its lakes. Taking the cable car from Ronchi via the first and second sections, the route reaches Le Cune at 2,200 meters. From there, it offers views of the Catinaccio, Latemar, the Monzoni Group, the Pale di San Martino and the Lagorai range.

Historical traces are the focus of the Moena–Alpe Lusia–Cima Bocche hiking trail. It follows the traces of the First World War and passes trenches and tunnels of the Austro-Hungarian line. In the Passo San Pellegrino area, there are also particularly significant historic trails suitable for different hiking levels.

Winter sports and a challenging climb

The northern side of the Alpe Lusia ski area toward Moena mainly offers red and black runs, including the “Piavac.” The southern side toward Castelir–Bellamonte, by contrast, offers gentler and sunnier descents. This different orientation helps you distinguish between more challenging and more moderate runs when planning a day of skiing.

There is also a specific route description for a sporty two-wheeled tour: the climb from Moena to Passo San Pellegrino is 13 kilometers long in total, 11 of them uphill.

Mountains and regional excursion destinations

In the immediate surroundings of Moena are Monte Ciamp, Viezzena and the summit of Le Pezze. The summit of Torre Vallaccia is located near Moena. These varied landscape destinations give your planning several geographical reference points if the mountains are also a priority alongside the town center.

The Latemar Art Museum is located near Moena. In the wider regional area are Castel Salego, a castle, Castelveccio, a ruin, and the Museo della Apicoltura Plattner. When choosing a hotel in Moena, it is therefore worth setting a clear priority: culture in the town, trails and mountain landscapes in the Alpe Lusia area, or regional destinations can be considered different focal points of your trip.

Other destinations in the same region: Faedo, Valle San Felice, Pozza Di Fassa, Nago-Torbole, Penia Di Canazei, Tassullo, Valduga, Ronzo-Chienis.
