Mezzana: River Sports, Forest Trails and Historic Town Centre
Accommodation in Mezzana
Mezzana combines the Noce River with forest trails, winter sports and historic buildings. This creates a destination where outdoor activities, insights into local history and a range of excursion interests can be combined. The old town centre, the trails to the Laghi del Malghet di Mezzana and the Centro sportivo comunale each add their own distinctive emphasis.
River, Trails and Winter Sports
River sports take place on this section of the Noce River in Mezzana. The Mezzana river stadium has been inaugurated. Water activities are therefore as much a part of the character of the area as trails along the river and through the forest.
The Ferrovia Trento Malè Mezzana connects Mezzana with Trento and runs through the Adige Valley, the Rotaliana Plain, the Non Valley and the Val di Sole. This connection places the towns and landscapes along the route within a broader regional context.
A moderately difficult circular trail leads from the centre of Mezzana to the Cascata di Mezzana and the hamlet of Castello at an altitude of 1,283 metres. The route finishes via Claiano. The trail to the Laghi del Malghet di Mezzana leads through the forest to the lakes; the Peace Cross on Cima Gardenè can be seen along the route.
The 35-kilometre Val di Sole cycle and pedestrian path also runs along the Torrente Noce. Before Mezzana, this cycle and pedestrian path follows the river. For your planning, this makes it possible to clearly distinguish between a moderately difficult circular hike, a forest trail to the lakes and a longer route for cyclists and pedestrians.
In winter, the Folgarida–Marilleva ski connection, together with Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo, makes it possible to ski in a ski area with more than 150 kilometres of pistes. The Marilleva ski area near Mezzana belongs to the Ski Area Dolomiti di Brenta and comprises a total of 150 kilometres of pistes.
The Centro sportivo comunale di Mezzana offers a natural ice-skating rink and a 7.5-kilometre cross-country ski trail in winter. It also has two uncovered tennis courts with synthetic surfaces, a grandstand for around 200 people and three bocce courts. Alongside river sports, hiking and skiing, this places a range of sporting opportunities at the same location at the centre of attention.
Churches, Local History and Crafts
In the old town centre of Mezzana, the parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo stands next to the Madonna di Caravaggio church. Casa Maturi, a 16th-century residential building connected with the local history, is also located there. Both buildings anchor the historic character of the centre in tangible structures.
The Segheria di Ortisè e Menas is a restored, still-functioning Venetian sawmill powered by a waterwheel. On four levels, visitors can see the log delivery area and the production area, as well as faithful replicas of mechanical elements and the turbine. This makes the facility an illustrative destination for anyone interested in traditional technology and craft processes.
Ortisè and Menas are also home to historic religious buildings. The Church of San Cristoforo in Ortisè has been documented since the 15th century. The San Rocco cemetery chapel stands on the road from Ortisè to Menas and can be traced back to the 16th century. The chapel of Saints Romedio and Barbara was built at the end of the 16th century.
Plan Your Stay According to Your Interests
When choosing a hotel in Mezzana, it is worth considering your personal priorities: the connection to Trento is complemented by the trails along the Noce, the circular trail to the Cascata di Mezzana and the historic sites in the old town centre. Winter sports, cross-country skiing, tennis and bocce add to the possible activities. You can therefore organise your trip around culture, activity, water or winter pursuits and structure the length of your stay according to the experiences you want.
