Pile-dwelling history on Lake Ledro

The Museo delle Palafitte del Lago di Ledro is located at Via al Lago 1 in the hamlet of Molina in the Ledro Valley. At the museum, you can see reconstructions and original remains of a Bronze Age pile-dwelling village dating from 2200 to 1350 BC. The archaeological pile-dwelling site of Ledro lies on the eastern shore of Lake Ledro and is considered Italy's first and most important pile-dwelling site.

The tour of the Museo delle Palafitte del Lago di Ledro includes access to a reconstructed and furnished pile dwelling. This means that the early settlement form is not limited to abstract dates but can be experienced as a tangible place. Mulino Brighenti also recalls the more recent history of Molina di Ledro: the historic mill belonging to the Brighenti family operated until 1979.

Water routes and Spiaggia di Besta

Spiaggia di Besta is located in Molina on the eastern shore of Lake Ledro. The SUP route that circles Lake Ledro and returns to Molina di Ledro starts there. For the SUP tour around the lake, Molina di Ledro was chosen as the starting beach because of its convenient access to the shore. If you would like to experience the lake from the water, this route provides a clearly defined way to connect the starting point with the return journey.

Cycling, circular routes and views

The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle from various perspectives. Beach & Bike in Molina di Ledro rents out e-bikes and bicycles and provides direct access to the cycle path along Lake Ledro, the Ponale trail and the mule track to Tremalzo. The Lake Ledro tour combines the lakeside route with the forest road from Bariolo and is suitable for cycling through green surroundings with views of Lake Ledro.

On the Giro del Lago di Ledro, Molina is one of the villages located along the lakeside route. If you prefer to head for a single viewpoint, Madonnina di Besta offers views of Lake Ledro, the villages on the valley floor and the surrounding mountains. The view extends from Lake Garda in the east to the peaks of Adamello in the west, as well as across Tremalzo and Monte Corno.

Practical information for your stay

The Info Point Molina di Ledro offers maps and information about recreational opportunities in the surrounding area. It also sells tickets for numerous events and arranges bookings for various experiences and activities. This can be helpful if you would like to divide your days between the museum, lake, cycle paths and viewpoints. When choosing your hotel or accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether the focus of your trip should be on culture, water activities, cycling tours or a combination of these interests.
