Historic Traces in Preore
The first church in Preore was built in 1321 at another location. In 1772, it was destroyed by flooding of the Sarca; the present-day church is dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena. Public assemblies of the Comunità di Preore were held at the Campanile di Vigo. Together with Montagne and Ragoli, Preore belongs to the Regola di Spinale e Manez. This community, established in 1377, manages communal assets for social purposes.
The older Manez order is also part of the village’s historical picture. The first known statute of Manez was drawn up in 1377. Bafàl in the Preore area is considered the place where the public rule and the council of Monte di Manez were held. Such references make local history visible not only through individual buildings, but also through community structures.
Val Manez and Trails Through the Surrounding Area
Access to Val Manez leads from Preore via Cort, Larzana and Binio. Historically, these places were districts of the municipality of Montagne and today belong to Tre Ville. This connects orientation in the valley with a clearly traceable history of the area.
For a short outing, the Senter da l'acqua is a good option. The easy trail is 2 km long, has an elevation gain of 180 m and takes about one hour. It begins in Vigo di Ragoli behind the historic Casa Rusca and ends in Preore at the Capitello di San Giovanni Nepomuceno. Sound stations are located at Casa Rusca, Doccia delle Riziere, Oselera, Rio Manez and Buston.
A longer option is the Giro della Bastia di Baticler. The route has a moderate difficulty level and takes about half a day. It begins at the Sesena sports center and follows the cycle path counterclockwise toward Preore. It then leads via Montagne, the Niere locality and Provaiolo to the possibly Roman ruins of Bastia del Baticler on the mountain slopes.
Via Ferrata at the Croz de le Niere Climbing Wall
The Ferrata Art-pinistica in Preore runs across the easier rock ledges and walls of the Croz de le Niere climbing wall. Its favorable orientation means that it can be used for much of the year.
