Daone lies at the entrance to the valley leading to Val di Fumo and the sources of the Chiese in Adamello. Around the town, the area includes several mountain pastures, large water basins and areas characterized by chestnut trees. Landscape in Val di Daone
The natural area includes Lago di Casinèi at an altitude of 2,059 m. It lies in a glacial hollow below Monte Remà in Val di Daone and can be reached via trail 250 from Malga di Nova. In the same valley, icefalls form along numerous streams and mountain torrents; 136 have been recorded. The Grotta di Aladino – Grotta val di Nova – is located in the municipality of Daone. Its main entrance can be reached via a trail from Malga Casinèi and then continuing to Malga Casinèi della Nova.
Hiking Trails and Trekking
The Percorso dei prati e dei fiori is a four-kilometre circular trail around the artificial lake of Moradino. Information panels there focus on the small animal life of Val di Daone. The circular route can be started directly in Daone by adding an extra kilometre. Those who start directly in Daone therefore add the additional kilometre to the four-kilometre loop around the artificial lake of Moradino. Separately, stage 35 of the SAT trekking route “Il Perimetro del Trentino” leads to the hamlet of Pracul in Daone, in Val di Daone.
Churches and Memorial Sites
The Church of San Bartolomeo acquired its present appearance in the 17th and early 18th centuries, when it was rebuilt and extended. Its portico was used for community assemblies in the 14th century. On the plain of Limes in Val di Daone stands the Madonna della Neve at an altitude of 929 m. It was rebuilt in 1959 over an older structure as a memorial to those who died during the major hydroelectric works in Val di Daone. For those interested in culture, the themes range from the 14th-century portico of the Church of San Bartolomeo to the Madonna della Neve, rebuilt in 1959.
Mushrooms, Nature and Local Topics
The enormous trunk of the silver fir Avèz de Boaz is preserved in Daone’s town hall square. The Piccolo Museo della Micologia Fungolife comprises around five rooms devoted to specific topics and documents relating to mushrooms. It displays publications, works of art, a photo and video library, as well as minerals and fossils.
